Multiples of 3

The multiples of 3 are the numbers, which are obtained by multiplying 3 with any natural numbers. In other words, the multiples of 3 are the numbers that leave the remainder value of 0, when it is divided by 3. Some of the examples of multiples of 3 are 6, 15, 27, 36, etc. For example, 4 multiplied by 3 is 12 and hence 12 is a multiple of 3. In general, the multiples and factors of a number are interrelated topics. Here, we are going to learn what are the multiples of 4, a list of multiples of 4 and many solved examples in a detailed way.

What are the Multiples of 3?

Any number that can be denoted in the form 3n where n is an integer is the multiples of 3. So if two values p and q are there, we say that q is a multiple of p if q = np for some integer n. In other words, the multiples of 3 are the numbers that leave no remainder (i.e. Remainder = 0), when it is divided by 3.

First 10 Multiples of 3: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30

For example, 9, 12, 21 and 36 are all multiples of 3 for the following reasons.

9 = 3 x 3
12 = 3 x 4
21 = 3 x 7
36 = 3 x 12

(i.e) 9/3 = 3 and remainder is 0

12/3 = 4 and remainder is 0

21/3 = 7 and remainder is 0.

36/3 = 12 and remainder is 0.

Since the numbers are exactly divided by 3, the numbers 9, 12, 21, 36 are multiples of 3.

Is 0 a multiple of 3?

Yes, zero is a multiple of every number. So, 0 is a multiple of 3. Also, 3 x 0 = 0.

Multiples of 3 Examples

Example 1:

Find out the multiples of 3 from the list of numbers 16, 12, 22, 28, 31, 33, 42.

Solution:

Given: List of numbers are 16, 12, 22, 28, 31, 33, 42.

We know that the multiples of 3 are the numbers that are exactly divisible by 3.

Hence, the multiples of 3 are 12, 33 and 42

But the numbers 16, 22, 28, and 31 are not the multiples of 3 as they leave some remainder value.

Example 2:

What is the least common multiple of 3 and 6?

Solution:

Multiples of 3: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30

Multiples of 6: 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48, 54, 60.

Hence, the least common multiple of 3 and 6 is 6.
